Antolin launches the GENIUS project to develop Artificial Intelligence-based systems that recognise the emotional and cognitive states of vehicle users
Antolin leads the project “Correlation of biometric data with cognitive and emotional states in vehicle interior scenarios and investigation of corrective stimuli and advanced control functions: GENIUS-Case I”. (IDI- 20230376).
The project based on Artificial Intelligence that aims to improve the user experience during the journey. With the collaboration of a renowned team of Spanish experts in Neurology, Psychology, Cognitive Knowledge, the study of Emotions and Computer Systems, the company will research the development of intelligent systems capable of determining cognitive and emotional states, as well as the mood, comfort and health of users by correlating them with biometric parameters through real-time sensing.
The so-called GENIUS project will monitor the vehicle cabin through different sensors that, connected to intelligent systems, will analyse and interpret the cognitive and emotional state of the user. Depending on the state identified, the aim is to improve the passenger's on-board experience based on external stimuli such as lighting, sound or aromas, automatically adjusting the cabin interior to their specific needs.
In this project, Antolin will work together with leading research groups such as the Technological Institute of Castilla y León (ITCL), the Textile Industry Research Association (AITEX), Infinitia Research, the Biomedical Engineering Group (GIB) and the ICAI School of Engineering. In addition, given the need to define cognitive models and emotional states, Antolin has formed a multidisciplinary team of medical professionals specialising in Psychology, Neurology, Emotion Recognition and Natural Language Processing. The entities that make up this medical team are Hospital Universitario de Burgos, UNED, PSICOSALUD, Universidad de Oviedo, and Hospital Universitario La Paz.
This project responds to the evolution of vehicles towards people's third living space, as a continuation of their homes or offices, which implies new scenarios for the interior of the cabin that require the incorporation of new functions. Furthermore, as part of Antolin's vision of the future, the aim is for the control of these interior functions to be autonomous and intelligent, which will be achieved with this project, whose system will be capable of analysing the user and optimising and adapting the vehicle to their needs at all times.
As part of the project, a state-of-the-art simulator for research and analysis of critical parameters and monitoring systems is being built to test the correlation study between stimuli, cognitive states and biomedical and physiological data.
This collaboration in innovation will allow car manufacturers to offer a futuristic and disruptive solution, far removed from the traditional way of interacting with passengers inside vehicles. In this way, the cabin will adapt to users to ensure maximum comfort and safety at all times.
The GENIUS-Case I project will last 20 months, with a total budget of €1,950,541. It is co-financed by CDTI and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
It has the collaboration of: ITCL, GIB, INFINITIA, AITEX, ICAI
