The company's innovation activities seek to give a creative response to the great trends that redefine the conception of mobility on a daily basis. As part of its Smart Integrator strategy, Antolin offers solutions to provide smart vehicle interiors.

Antolin prioritises programmes oriented to the technical enri chment of the company's products by developing function integration solutions, as well as studying processes to be more efficient and competitive.

Innovation in Antolin is a cross-divisional area, therefore R&D&I activities are carried out in any of the company's centres and affect, not only its technical management, but also a large team of external partners.

Smart Integrator

ANTOLIN i.JUMP is Antolin's open innovation initiative to work with  engineers, physicians and other STEM profiles, as well as startups, SMEs, technology centers and universities. The aim is to strengthen and accelerate the R&D&I and technological development of the company.

Antolin seeks to create an open ecosystem of exchange of ideas and knowledge. The goal is to develop innovative solutions and new ways of innovation and collaboration with which to face the enormous challenges of the automotive industry.

ANTOLIN i.JUMP forms part of Antolin’s innovation strategy and is also part of its policy for attracting talent. The company needs the best professionals so that it can lead the current digital transformation of the automobile industry, in both products and processes.

The company will take part in and support initiatives and events that strengthen the innovative spirit and technological development. Antolin wants to improve communication and collaboration with the different open innovation ecosystems.

The main goals of our open innovation strategy are:

  • Attract and catch external vision, talent, knowledge and capabilities for ours innovation challenges.
  • Develop new solutions of products and/or processes.
  • Develop external innovation teams: new models of innovation and partnerships.
  • Participate in initiatives and events to promote innovation and support entrepreneurship.

Another initiative is our Design Challenge: a competition, now in its second edition, that seeks to share our commitment to design and innovation with students from around the world by giving them the opportunity to showcase their ideas in the automotive world.

CURRENT CHALLENGES

Antolin’s leadership position is the outcome of our commitment to innovation as a means of flexibly and efficiently adapting to a changing and extremely competitive international market.


 

The new mobility

 

Greater environmental social awareness, along with restrictions on car access to the city centre, have generated new forms of mobility with alternative propulsion modes such as electric, as well as the development of business models based on fleets of vehicles for sharing.

The final consolidation of the 100% electric vehicle requires us to go deeper in aspects of weight lightening and the development of modular solutions with maximum levels of functional integration, as well as the use of technologies for the processing of composite materials, structural foaming processes and linings, and the incorporation of advanced carbon materials.

For Antolin, electrification also has other innovation implications within the vehicle:

  • Optimisation of thermal comfort.
  • Surface heating technologies.
  • Optimisation of vibro-acoustic behaviour.

The advanced assistance systems is allowing the progressive automation of driving to reach an advanced level of autonomy. In the same way, the interior of the car will require the incorporation of new connectivity solutions and entertainment, while rethinking the comfort aspects on board:

  • New interior architectures.
  • Redefining spaces.

The interior of the vehicle is transforming into a new living space. In this sense, improving life on board for people has always been a constant aim for Antolin. Today more than ever our efforts are aimed at promoting a healthy environment inside. The need for surface asepsis, as well as monitoring and controlling the air quality we breathe on board, are now managed by fundamental issues more than ever.

To this end, Antolin is currently working on the development of::

  • Components with textile fabrics made from natural fibres, such as bamboo with intrinsic fungicide properties.
  • The incorporation into our processes of materials formulated with antimicrobial additives to provide plastic surfaces with antiseptic properties.
  • Mixed systems that combine air filtration with surface sterilisation systems.

As for the shared vehicle, its use by a greater number of users will have effects on certain aspects of comfort. Therefore, Antolin works on surfaces that are more resistant to usage and easy to clean with antiseptic and odourless properties.

 

 

 

 

Connectivity

Connectivity is increasingly a key sales criterion for the car and the basis of tomorrow's driving safety.

Needs of communication with occupants, other vehicles and road infrastructure will increase as the market evolves. Consequently, the need arises to integrate connectors and wiring inside the car – even through functional printing – sensors, actuators, antennas, functional lighting, displays and monitoring cameras, as well as their own control electronics.

Efficiency, flexibility and competitiveness

The company's strategy includes the development of Programmes aimed at the implementation of advanced manufacturing technologies with the goal of achieving the highest levels of efficiency and business competitiveness. To this end, the capture, analysis and management of relevant data is key in this field.

In addition, the company seeks to improve its industrial flexibility by allowing the reconfiguration of facilities and processes to adapt them to increasingly demanding production changes and new requirements. The goal is to make our processes and systems smarter in order to optimise quality control, predictive maintenance and logistics flow optimisation; the three main areas of application of advanced manufacturing in the company.

Finally, given the strategic importance of environmental sustainability aspects, research is under way on the reduction, reuse and recycling of waste generated in manufacturing processes.

On the other hand, Antolin has different lines of innovation aimed at promoting the circular economy and extending it to its entire value chain by means of::

  • Technologies for processing materials with high content of recycled material.
  • Biopolymers.
  • 100% Natural materials and surfaces (easy to recycle).

CONCEPT CAR

 

Our concept car is a sign of our commitment to constant innovation

To express its vision of the car of the future and turn the concepts and dreams of customers into industrial reality, Grupo Antolin develops prototypes of the interior of the car.

The company has developed a complete concept car: a SUV Premium vehicle with level 4 self-driving, which combines conventional driving and self-driving solutions, making it possible to enhance the possibilities of life on board,

The elaborate design of this interior has been based on three fundamental factors:

  • Innovative and natural materials: allow for decorative surfaces with intelligence and added value.
  • The integration of technology into Grupo Antolin's products offering entertainment systems and services, digital personalization and connectivity.
  • The integration of ambient and functional lighting through different innovative solutions. These solutions employ the full potential of the new technologies and offer a permanent dialogue with the user.

The vehicle also presents Grupo Antolin’s vision of the cockpit of the future, where all the previous factors are reflected in a part of the car that is highly technological, functional and where the HMI (interaction between the passengers and the car and its systems) is a fundamental feature.

CONCEPT CAR

 

Concept Cars show our vision of the car interior of the future, as well as our latest innovative solutions

To express its vision of the car of the future and turn the concepts and dreams of customers into industrial reality, Antolin develops prototypes of the interior of the car. The aim is to lead mobility from inside the vehicle by offering avant-garde and intelligent solutions to OEMs.

NEXUS is a revolutionary proposition for inner door panels. This door panel concept has born in the USA with a global approach: to cover the consumers demands while meeting the requirements of any client around the world.

Thanks to the alliance with key partners as Walter Pack (smart surfaces) or PersiSKIN (vegetal skin for interior trim), Antolin wants to evolve the solutions comprised in the door panel from sustainable materials (natural, recycled or recyclable) to valuable technologies (enhancing user experience).

 

 

ANTOLIN VIVAR

 

ANTOLIN VIVAR offers a more sustainable, intelligent and comfortable space for the users to enjoy the time while travelling, or for them to work, relax, talk, create, or escape.

Taking as inspiration the figure of the local hero from Burgos, Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar, El Cid, one the best-know medieval knights in Europe, and the colors and materials of the landscape of the same region, this concept car perfectly captures the innovative DNA of Antolin.  

To enrich the warm and welcoming interior experience, a robust and sophisticated exterior has been also designed, with a front illuminated panel replacing the conventional radiator grille that enables communication with road users.

Facial recognition allows the users to enter the vehicle without a key.

 

Innovative Upper Trim

Innovative Upper Trim concept relies on a perimetral smart frame that allows greater configuration:

  • Numerous decorative materials: matte black, piano black, brushed aluminum, carbon fiber, wood, stone…
  • Closed headliner or panoramic glass roof options are suitable with the same design.

And a seamless integration of innovative features as:

  • redefined overhead console with capacitive switches.
  • Retractable sun visors.
  • Audio system from different speakers located in the perimeter for a surround effect or to create a personal sound bubble.
  • Information display and visual comfort through light.

 

 

Smart Sliding Floor Console

Smart Sliding Floor Console concept is designed for specific needs but useful for all passengers.

Electric vehicles turn the interior into a diaphanous space which allows new layouts and the arrangement of movable and adjustable components to erase physical barriers inside the car.

The power-slide center console concept moves softly back and forth taking advantage of the even floor; therefore, it can be operated safely by front and rear passengers in both senses of travel and at any level of autonomous driving.

This concept also features several HMI solutions that improve in-vehicle comfort and convenience, while at the same time provide personalized experiences: the main infotainment display introduces a holographic assistant that can be controlled by voice commands or by a kinematic and nomad knob that can set even with the surface. A secondary rear screen by projector has been also integrated. Both displays make information processing and monitoring simple, intuitive, and dependable.

 

 

 

in-Pulse

Showcased in 2022, the interior concept car in-Pulse is the result of Antolin North America Innovation Department’s vision of a flexible car interior space. This vehicle offers a comfortable interior that transforms to provide users with a personalized driving experience as well as convenient storage proposals.

This concept aligns with Antolin’s strategic lines of innovation by displaying state of the art solutions that enrich the user experience inside a vehicle mainly targeted to the North American market. However, this ideation can be easily adapted to the needs of other territories.

The concept car offers ready-to-market solutions combined with looking-forward technologies. The interior is based on an electric SUV with Level 4 of autonomy and an interior adapted to the loading and storage user’s needs.

 

Virtual Concept Cars

Antolin has developed in 2021 two new virtual Concept Cars, which capture its vision of the car interior of the future, as well as its latest innovative solutions.

Virtual Ride Hailing Concept Car: This vehicle transforms the interior into a living space where people can work, relax or communicate while on the move. In addition, the interior becomes a bubble of health, well-being and safety for occupants thanks to advanced air purification solutions. The smart interior interacts with passengers using state-of-the-art technologies. This Concept Car was presented at a Global Event, which was broadcast through the company's social networks.

Virtual Ride Sharing Concept Car: With this Concept Car, called ELIN, Antolin offers innovative solutions for mobility that is simultaneously electric, autonomous, sharing and healthy. This vehicle shows the company's vision of what shared mobility might look like in big cities. It has been designed to be integrated into the ecosystems of the urban areas. Its versatile interior can be customized for fleets of vehicles by acoustic panels with decorative inserts made by natural materials. ELIN concept car, where ELIN stands for ELectric and AntollN, will ride you to a sustainable future. 

 

 

 

2019 Concept Car

OPEN INNOVATION

ANTOLIN i.JUMP is Grupo Antolin's open innovation initiative to work with  engineers, physicians and other STEM profiles, as well as startups, SMEs, technology centers and universities. The aim is strengthening and accelerating the R&D&I and technological development of the company.

Grupo Antolin seeks to create an open ecosystem of exchange of ideas and knowledge. The goal is to develop innovative solutions and new ways of innovation and collaboration with which to face the enormous challenges of the automotive industry. The company will launch a program of challenges so that this innovation ecosystem can find solutions to Grupo Antolin’s processes and products.

The launch of the challenges will be carried out in partnership with ennomotive, the leading open innovation platform for resolving technological challenges, involving more than 15,000 engineers from across the world.

ANTOLIN i.JUMP forms part of Grupo Antolin’s innovation strategy and is also part of its policy for attracting talent. The company needs the best professionals so that it can lead the current digital transformation of the automobile industry, in both products and processes. Through ANTOLIN i.JUMP, the company will be in contact with highly qualified professionals.

One such initiative is Polo Positivo, a program to accelerate industrial projects launched by Grupo Antolin together with four other companies from Burgos (Gonvarri, Aciturri, Fundación Caja Burgos y Calidad Pascual).

GA Design Challenge 2020 competition is a way for us to share our commitment to innovation and design with students worldwide, giving everyone a chance to see their ideas come to light.

Grupo Antolin wants accelerate its innovative effort. We look for doing more things, faster and better, to cope with a complex, uncertain and ultracompetitive context.

You can help us with new innovative solutions to generate new products or processes and to integrate technologies in our smart interiors looking for comfort and safety.

We are looking for different solutions, different ways of doing things: new products, tools, designs or materials and changes in current processes.

 

JOIN OUR CHALLENGES:

73 solutions from 29 different countries have been received for the first three challenges, 5 of them have been awarded with two winning proposals and 3 second prizes. Now we want to work on the potential application of these solutions in our products and processes.

We were looking for technical solutions for the interior of the vehicle related to air quality, electronics cooling and new functions based on intelligent systems. The goal of the challenges was to improve comfort and life on board passengers in the vehicle.
